When both dating and car shopping, Canadian women notably desire reliability and compatibility more than men, says Hyundai Auto Canada.
Seventy-seven percent of women across Canada look for reliability in a potential partner, and 87 percent say they look for it in a car, compared to 66 percent of men who seek reliability in their next partner and 80 percent in their next car purchase, according to a recent Hyundai Auto Canada study on both dating and car buying.
The study found that men are also least likely to consider compatibility when car shopping. While 35 percent of women consider compatibility, only 29 percent of men do.
"Dating and car shopping are more similar than you'd think. Both require a considerable amount of time, have long-term effects and often involve diving into the unknown," Hyundai Auto Canada director of marketing Lawrence Hamilton said in a news release.
When it comes to dating compatibility, 80 percent of women look for compatible lifestyles in future partners compared to just 69 percent of men.
Interestingly, Canadian women also consider the appearance of a new-car purchase more than men.
Fifty-seven percent of women look for appearance in their vehicle versus 46 percent for a partner.
While 57 percent of men are more likely than women to care about appearance in their partner and just 45 percent for their car.
Hyundai Auto Canada commissioned the study as a part of Hyundai’s newly launched Ultimate Date campaign in Canada.
Additionally, the campaign includes a contest where Canadians have a chance to win an evening chauffeured in the Ioniq and $200 for a night out with Canadian personalities Jasmine Lorimer in Toronto or Joey Scarpellino in Montreal. Hyundai said it will select one winner every month for six months.
"There are a lot of similarities between dating and car shopping", said Lorimer. "I know I'm guilty of building a list of qualities that I look for in both, and I was pleasantly surprised by the Ioniq – it's fun to drive, full of all the necessary tech features and has a super sleek design."
To enter the contest, contestants can either visit or go on the Tinder app and "swipe right" when they see the promoted campaign profile by Hyundai.
