One adjective summarized the latest Dealertrack Technologies TradeTracker Used Vehicle Market Report: consistent.
There was only one deviation in the trends for the past month, the past three months and year-to-date when Dealertrack highlighted both the top five vehicles overall appraised by dealers as well as the top vehicles being looked at by trade-in owners in its October report.
First, looking at the vehicles being appraised, the top five shook out the same when looking at each timeframe. Coming in the top spot was the Ford F-150, followed by a trio of compacts — the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic Sedan and Mazda’s MAZDA3.
The Dodge Grand Caravan — which entered in the group of the top five appraised back in July — remained among this contingent in October.
Meanwhile the top vehicles looked at by trade-in owners reflected more consistency with the same units rising to the forefront last month, during the past three months as well as year-to-date.
Within this group, the top domestic vehicle looked at by domestic owners was once again the F-150.
For import owners, the top import vehicle looked at was the Corolla.
And when it comes to domestics, import owners looked at the Ford Escape the most
Lastly, the top import vehicle looked at by domestic owners was the Toyota RAV4 during the past month and three months. However when looking at year-to-date information, it’s the Corolla that leads the way.
These reports are provided monthly to AuSM Canada and are a result of Dealertrack Technologies' Trade Tracker solution, which is an online, trade-in evaluation tool that allows dealerships to create instant, accurate appraisals and gain insight into their used-car business.
The report also broke down the vehicles by market, as follows:
— The top domestic vehicle appraised by domestic dealers was the F-150.
— The top import vehicle appraised by import dealers was the Corolla.
— The top domestic vehicle appraised by import dealers was the Ford Focus.
— The top import vehicle appraised by domestic dealers was the MAZDA3.
The TradeTracker reports also include a Brand of the Month section, which highlights appraisal trends by an individual brand each month.
The brand highlighted in October was Nissan.
The top three vehicles looked at by trade-in customers at Nissan dealerships were not surprisingly the badge’s primary offerings, the Rogue, Sentra and Altima.
The top three off-make vehicles appraised by Nisan dealers were Corolla, MAZDA3 and Civic Sedan, respectively.
