CarMax recently announced that it has renewed its two-year commitment to veterans nonprofit The Mission Continues, which works to address local issues and make meaningful social change.
The renewed partnership kicked off with a service project at Houston’s Roderick Paige Elementary School in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day with The Mission Continues and the Greater Houston American Red Cross.
Over 200 volunteers refurbished the school’s grounds and assembled 3,000 “disaster kits” to replenish kits used during Hurricane Harvey.
The project was part of The Mission Continues’ national MLK Day of Service campaign and CarMax’s Houston Strong initiative, dedicated to recovery efforts related to Hurricane Harvey.
“CarMax is committed to providing community support and career opportunities to our military service members, veterans and their families,” CarMax director of community relations Leslie Parpart said in a news release. “As a partner of The Mission Continues, CarMax associates have volunteered side-by-side with veterans in Houston, Denver and Richmond, and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together in the next two years.”
In addition to renewing lead sponsorship of the Houston 3rd Service Platoon, CarMax’s Houston Strong initiative contributions included the donation of a cargo van to support all five local platoons’ volunteer efforts, according to the company.
CarMax said in September it will be recognized as the Silver Sponsor for The Mission Continues’ Platoon Leadership Summit in Houston.
“We're proud to renew and expand upon our valued partnership with CarMax,” said The Mission Continues president Spencer Kympton. “Together we have an opportunity to provide increased support for our nation's veterans in their commitment to continued service and as leaders of community change.”
